Back Pain... continued

Continuing on our journey of the back and issues that can arise, we are going to cover a specific condition mentioned earlier called Spondylolisthesis. This is a medical condition which occurs when one of the vertebras of the spinal column shifts forward or backward in relation to the vertebra above or below it. This shift can occur in one vertebra or the entire vertebral column.

There can be several major causes of Spondylolisthesis (but not limited to):
  1. An individual may have been born with it. This condition is called congenital spondylolisthesis.
  2. If an individual is actively engaged in sports like gymnastics, weight lifting or soccer, he/she can be quite vulnerable to this condition. Such sports involve hyperextension of the spine and this activity can put the spine at risk.
  3. The body becomes vulnerable to this condition as we age. As an individual grows older, his/her bones become weak and hence more susceptible to the injuries.
Spondylolisthesis is though problematic but curable. All you have to do is take good care of your self, lift heavy objects correctly and perform proper exercises to strengthen your back muscles.

See our 'Fantasie Exercise' Section for exercise that you can perform to promote overall back health and strength.
